Role: Engagement & Participation Lead (Part Time)

Term: June 2025 - May 2026, with a probation period of 8 weeks. This is initially a fixed term contract with the option to extend / increase delivery depending on Moving Parts Arts fundraising successes and the candidate's own capacity. 

 

Salary: £34,299 pro rata (£17,150 actual part time for 2.5 days or 20 hours a week)

Statutory sick and holiday pay, as well as an opt-out pension plan. 

 

Based in: Moving Parts Arts office (Newcastle City Centre), at home / remotely when appropriate, and delivery at community hub locations and educational institutions in Newcastle and surrounding area.

 

Reporting to: Artistic Director and Board of Trustees

 

Overview: Moving Parts Arts CIO is looking for a dynamic, friendly and highly organised person to join our team as a part time Engagement & Participation Lead. The right candidate will be passionate about inspiring communities to engage in puppetry, performance and outdoor arts activities, and have excellent knowledge and experience of working with communities in Newcastle and the surrounding area. 

 

This role is initially attached to our upcoming 12-month project Teeny Tiny Toon, which will run May 2025 - April 2026. However, depending on fundraising outcomes, there will be the potential to extend the contract / increase delivery to span other projects and year-round delivery.

 

The Engagement & Participation Lead will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of Teeny Tiny Toon, which will engage at least 500 residents in the West End of Newcastle in a series of puppetry and storytelling workshops, and the creation of a community film and exhibition. This role has two key areas of responsibility: 

• Administrative / Logistical: making community connections, project administration, assisting with project coordination, databasing, evaluation

• Delivery: on-the-ground delivery of workshops and events with participants and groups, planning and prep of materials and sessions, leading on safeguarding practices

 

The Engagement & Participation Lead will be supported by the Artistic Director and Producer in administrative and logistical tasks where appropriate. They will support in managing artists, workshop delivery, and co-managing our Assistant Producer on project-related tasks.

Essential skills and experience:

• Proven track record of working with communities in Newcastle and the surrounding area

• Experience in the planning and delivery of creative workshops for a range of ages and abilities

• An understanding of up-to-date safeguarding best practice

• Proven track record of liaising with community groups and coordinating participants

• Excellent organisation and administrative skills

• IT skills including using spreadsheets, word processing and correspondence

• A passion and understanding of puppetry and performing arts

• Experience of working at a fast and dynamic pace with a small team of people who have a shared goal

• Bigger picture thinking balanced with attention to detail

 

Desirable skills and experience:

• Experience in delivering community workshops that use puppetry, and/or automata, kinetic art, outdoor arts, stop motion animation, crafts, parade arts, carnival or visual/sensory theatre.

• A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle. 

• Safeguarding training to Level 3*

• An enhanced DBS check on the update service*

• Positive connections and relationships with community groups in Newcastle and the surrounding area

• Experience of managing / supporting other team members

 

*This will be provided for the right candidate if training needs updating.
